Volunteering for the programme Interreg Italy – Croatia

Dear all,

Nice to meet you 😊

Today, I would like to share my experience with Interreg.

As an IVY Volunteer (Interreg Volunteer Youth) within the Interreg Italy-Croatia Program based in Venice, I am deeply immersed in the mission to enhance cooperation and cohesion among these two European countries while simultaneously improving various sectors. Interreg Italy Croatia finances cross-border cooperation projects focusing on innovation in the blue economy, capitalises previous cooperation experiences, and creates stronger sinergies with EUSAIR.

The cooperation in these parts of the Adriatic Sea is undoubtedly strategic, presenting both challenges and opportunities. On one hand, it necessitates concerted efforts to foster cross-border collaboration, particularly in integrating economic, educational, and labor markets. On the other hand, it serves as a shared economic and environmental asset, offering a natural platform for cooperation rooted in centuries-old trade exchanges and common cultural heritage.

I firmly believe that IVY presents an unparalleled opportunity for young professionals to collaborate within the Interreg framework. I am truly delighted by the knowledge and experience I am gaining.

In my opinion, volunteering within an Interreg Programme differs significantly from volunteering within a project as it encompasses a broader and more strategic scope, focusing on long-term goals and provides a coordinated approach across multiple priorities. Being involved in numerous and diverse initiatives keeps us constantly stimulated and engaged with activities related to a wide array of topics.

My role within the Interreg Italy-Croatia Program is collaborating with the communication team of the Joint Secretariat. I support all the communication tasks, working together in the physical office and also with the Croatian team through various activities, including online meetings and in-person events. This dynamic is particularly stimulating as it provides a genuine perspective on the cross-border cooperation of the Program. Together, we engage with stakeholders, disseminate vital information, and participate in events, fostering a culture of cooperation that transcends geographical boundaries.

From the very beginning, I was deeply involved in various activities the Communication Unit manage. For instance, during my second week, I helped organize a Lead Partner Seminar. Just last week, we participated in the Venice Boat Show to promote the Consultation Post 2027, which was an excellent experience. Additionally, we organized a conference for the on-going small-scale project, providing participants with the opportunity to network, introduce themselves, and meet our team. I played a key role in the organization of this conference, which was quite challenging, but ultimately, I felt proud of my contributions.

Using our Programme’s social media channels and website, we create effective social media posts, write news articles to announce details, help out the projects in technical ways, and much more. It is a challenging experience, and I hope I have conveyed my enthusiasm to participate.
