This year’s edition takes place on Wednesday 28 September 2022 and can be followed on-site in Szeged, Hungary, and online. With some online presentations and an interactive online session, everyone is welcomed to join the discussion on youth and cross-border cooperation, from anywhere in the world.
At the Cross-Border School organised by the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR), academicians researching on cross-border cooperation and people implementing projects of cross-border cooperation meet, discuss and exchange to learn from each other.
This year, on occasion of the European Year of Youth, the sixth edition of the Cross-Border School is dedicated to youth, covering a range of issues that are relevant for the future of border regions and evaluating together ideas to create better spaces for young people to live.
Thanks to a fruitful collaboration with the Euroregion DKMT, the Radboud University of Nijmegen and the Province of Gelderland (NL) as well as the University of Victoria (Canada) in the framework of the 21st Century Borders project, the Cross-Border School will see the participation of researchers and practitioners from many European countries and from North America, with speakers from the United States, the Netherlands, Hungary and Canada among others. A representative of the European Commission, Mr Dirk Peters, as well as some colleagues from the Central European Services for Cross-Border Integration (CESCI), the Transfrontier Euro-Institut Network (TEIN) have confirmed their presence in Szeged to take part in the discussions.
Throughout three panels and an interactive session, professors, students, policy-makers and project officers will debate on various aspects that are relevant to make better policies for young people in border regions:
- Education Across Borders (9:15 – 10:45)
- Retaining young people/talent in “empty” regions (11:00 – 12:15)
- Cross-border Youth Mobility and Opportunities (14:00 – 14:45)
- Interactive session with the youth: Life for a young person in a border region in Western Europe/Eastern Europe/North America (14:45 – 16:30)
