JOB OFFER: Project Assistant at the Association of European Border Regions

Location: Berlin, Germany

Contract: Full-time (39 hours/week)

Period: September 2026 – June 2028

Working Language: English

About us

The Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) is a European-wide organisation representing border and cross-border regions. It aims to promote cross-border cooperation practices.

AEBR has its headquarters in Gronau and a project office in Berlin, Germany.

We are currently looking for a motivated Project Assistant to join our Berlin team to support the Interreg Volunteer Youth (IVY) initiative. Funded by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and managed by AEBR, IVY offers young people the opportunity to volunteer with Interreg programmes and projects, contributing to stronger European cooperation, solidarity, and territorial cohesion.

Your role

As a Project Assistant, you will support the day-to-day implementation of the Interreg Volunteer Youth (IVY) initiative, working closely with young volunteers and host organisations. You will play an important role in ensuring that volunteers have a smooth and rewarding experience while contributing to European Territorial Cooperation.

Your main tasks will include:

  • Providing information and guidance to potential volunteers and host organisations about IVY’s goals and rules;
  • Coordinating between host organisations and candidates, and helping find suitable participants;
  • Managing participation documents and administrative procedures (including supporting documents for visa applications, when needed);
  • Reviewing and processing applications submitted by volunteers and host organisations;
  • Contributing to IVY’s communication activities by drafting articles, creating social media content and supporting video production;
  • Participating in events and promoting IVY to partners and stakeholders;
  • Representing IVY with enthusiasm, including being featured in videos, photos, and social media.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the implementation of an EU-funded project while developing in-depth knowledge of EU regional policy, European Territorial Cooperation and youth engagement.

The position is to be filled in September with a contract until 30 June 2028. The salary follows the German public sector collective agreement (TVöD), being under category 8.1, corresponding to a gross monthly salary of approximately 3,486.00  euros (plus the annual special payments provided under the collective agreement).

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Excellent communication skills in English (C1 or higher) and at least one additional European language;
  • A good understanding of Interreg, Cohesion Policy, and EU youth policies or programmes;
  • Experience with volunteering and/or solidarity projects, ideally involving young people;
  • Strong interest in European projects and cross-border cooperation;
  • Strong organisational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail;
  • A collaborative spirit and the ability to work well in a team;
  • A proactive, flexible attitude, capable of handling both administrative and logistical tasks independently;
  • Empathy, active listening and motivation to support young people in their volunteering experiences;
  • Familiarity with digital tools (such as Canva, WordPress, Mailchimp, etc.) and a good knowledge of social media trends and campaign management;
  • Comfortable appearing in photos and videos for AEBR/IVY’s social media channels;
  • A basic understanding of visa procedures is desirable.

How to apply

Send your CV and a motivation letter (both in English, max. 1 page each) to ivy@aebr.eu.

In your motivation letter, please tell us why you believe young people play an important role in Interreg.

Application deadline: 27 August, midnight.

Interviews will be held in the following weeks, either in Berlin or via Zoom.

We look forward to receiving your application and welcoming a new colleague to the team!
