JOB OFFER: Project Assistant at the Association of European Border Regions

Location: AEBR Project Office, Berlin, Germany

About us

The Association of European Border Regions is a European-wide organisation representing border and cross-border regions. Its aim is to promote cross-border cooperation practices.

AEBR has its headquarters in Gronau and a project office in Berlin, Germany.

We are currently looking for a motivated Project Assistant to join the Berlin team and support the Interreg Volunteer Youth (IVY) initiative – a volunteering programme funded by the European Commission’s DG REGIO and managed by AEBR.

IVY gives young people the chance to volunteer in Interreg programmes and projects that strengthen European unity and solidarity.

 

Your role

As a Project Assistant, you will help run the daily activities of the IVY project, supporting young volunteers and the organisations hosting them. You will work closely with an international team and our network of regions and stakeholders.

Your main tasks will include:

  • Providing information and guidance to potential volunteers and host organisations about IVY’s goals and rules;
  • Coordinating between host organisations and candidates, and helping find suitable participants;
  • Handling and managing the necessary documentation for participation;
  • Assisting volunteers with visa processes and helping them relocate and settle in the host country;
  • Reviewing and approving applications from volunteers and host organisations;
  • Supporting communication activities: writing articles, drafting newsletters, creating social media posts, and making videos;
  • Participating in events and promoting IVY to partners and stakeholders;
  • Representing IVY with enthusiasm, including being featured in videos, photos, and social media channels.

 

The position grants a strong experience in EU project management and implementation, and vast knowledge in EU affairs, especially with focus on regional policy and European Territorial Cooperation.

The position is to be filled by beginning of September until 31 December 2027.

The salary is in accordance with the civil service collective agreement (TVöD) of the German system, being under category 8.1 with a gross monthly salary of approximately 3,390.00 euros, (plus extra payments in November and December).

What we are looking for 

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Excellent communication skills in English (C1 or higher) and at least one additional European language;
  • A good understanding of Interreg, Cohesion Policy, and European institutions;
  • Experience with volunteering and/or solidarity projects, ideally involving young people;
  • Strong interest in European projects and cross-border cooperation;
  • Strong organisational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail;
  • A collaborative spirit and the ability to work well in a team;
  • A proactive, flexible attitude, capable of handling both administrative and logistical tasks independently;
  • Empathy, active listening and motivation to support young people in their volunteering experiences;
  • Familiarity with digital tools (such as Canva, WordPress, Mailchimp, etc.) and a good knowledge of social media trends and campaigns;
  • Comfortable being in front of the camera for social media content (photos/videos);
  • A basic understanding of visa and travel regulations is a plus;
  • Willingness to work from AEBR’s project office in Berlin (work from home can be possible, but the candidate must reside in Berlin).
