PAMINA Climate Conference

Hey, my name is Julia, I’m 22 and I come from Germany. Since end of October I am involved in the IVY programme as volunteer for EGTC Eurodistrict PAMINA in Lauterbourg, France. As an important part of the project took place last week, I would like to share with you some of my experiences:

On 13th and 14 November the PAMINA youth conference about climate protection was held. About 35 young people participated in the two-day online conference via Zoom and worked on developing ideas for actions and demands to realize or to submit to politicians, companies or citizens.

As an IVY volunteer I had the opportunity to help in the organisation of this conference. My main task consisted in public relations aka. Instagram, but I also had the role of co-moderator during the conference.

Originally, the conference was supposed to take place in May and in presence in Lauterbourg, but, due to the current situation, it had to be postponed to November and was online. This surely caused some uncertainty amongst the organisation team before the conference, but, fortunately, it all worked out well and we probably all got to know some new functions of Zoom, which was quite interesting.

But the greatest success was the connection established between young people from the PAMINA cross border region talking about one of the most important issues of our time, climate change. It was nice to see the motivation and the mass of ideas of the participants. I am therefore very thankful to be part of the project and looking forward to the next step: the PAMINA Climate Challenge in which the participants will try to collect as many points as possible for their community (town or village) through by the actions they worked out during the conference (e. g. a car free week or one vegan day per week).
