D'où que l'on vienne, on est chez soi à Marseille

March 23, 2020

Wherever you come from, you are at home in Marseille wrote Jean-Claude Izzo. Son of Italian immigrants, Izzo perfectly understood the spirit of this city overlooking the sea and thankful for any kind of its gifts: spices, men, cultures, religions, traditions, languages. The sea meant and means freedom: freedom to leave and as well freedom to arrive.

After being European capital of culture in 2013, Marseille is positioning as one of the leading cities for 2050 challenges in the Mediterranean area. It is therefore no coincidence that Marseille and Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur committed to cross-border cooperation and many different programmes:

  • with the Italian regions sharing its boarders and the Alpes (ALCOTRA programme);

  • with Italian regions near its shores and sea (MARITIMO programme);

  • with all the Mediterranean countries (interreg MED);

I had the chance to work for Mission Prospective at Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and to be actively involved in ALCOTRA and MARITIMO programmes and in particular in TRENO and MOBIMART projects. I am an architect and an urban planner, and the IVY experience helped me to combine my studies in territorial and urban development and my interest in cross-border and European projects.

TRENO project aims to combine the charm of 19th century historical railways and the territories traversed, characterized by historical, cultural and landscape elements. TRENO develops a sustainable tourism offer by redeveloping and enhancing the historical infrastructure and helps the small and medium-sized tourism companies specialized in typical regional products.

The goal of MOBIMART (MOBilità Intelligente MARe Terra) is to create a single infomobility tool to allow citizens, tourists and commuters to travel between five regions (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Corse, Sardegna, Toscana, Liguria), plan their movements and to be informed in real time. The project realizes the integration of the transport services, considered as a single route from departure to arrival, regardless of the means of transport - boat, bus, train, plane.

Finally, I had the opportunity to help the organization and to attend Forum Prospective, where regional and local authorities, private enterprises, academics and politician though about 10-30 year regional strategy about mobility, climate change, territorial development.
