Cooperation in the Adriatic and Ionian seas
My name is Federica Iudica and I am currently volunteering at the ADRION programme at the Emilia-Romagna Region in Italy. I am from Italy but I have studied abroad at the University of Leiden, The Netherlands.
After a few months of experience in an italian NGO which fosters international cooperation projects I have decided to learn more about how the EU works in practice, thus I decided to apply to be become an IVY Volunteer, and now I can tell it was a great idea!
The ADRION Programme supports projects of transnational cooperation between 8 countries (Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Albania). One of the things that I like the most about the programme is that I have the opportunity of learning a lot about Western Balkans countries, that I didn’t know so much about before becoming a IVY Reporter.
My mentor worked for a range of other EU Agencies before working at ADRION, therefore I always have interesting insights and stories about the EU projects and her previous experiences. The more I support communication and external relations, the more I enjoy managing different social media platforms and the organization of events. I think that EU regional cooperation has so much to offer but I would say that the general public is not completely aware of it so I am really happy to contribute to its visibility.
On top of this, I really like environmental sustainability issues that the ADRION Programme is supporting through various projects such as ARIEL and HarmoNIA, and I believe I am definitely going to be involved in sustainability in my future career, may it be in a Governmental Organization or in an NGO.
I might take part in the Joint 4th Forum of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) that will take place from 7 to 9 May 2019. During the meetings, various stakeholders will discuss topics including Blue Growth in the Adriatic an Ionian Region and the promotion of Sustainable Tourism. I cannot wait to participate to the conferences and meetings, i’m sure it’s going to be really interesting!
I will keep you updated about it!
