My experience as IVY volunteer in a small Polish city!

December 22, 2017

My experience as IVY volunteer was over the plans. My aim, at the beginning, was to improve my professional skills sharing the EU Solidarity Corps values at the local level and I chose Poland because I was always fascinated by this country.

I was expected to gain in term of personal growth, to contribute actively for the project and to impact positively on this Polish city. But what I underestimated was that also the locals would have impacted on me very strongly – yes, the volunteering experience means bilateral exchange of values.

I got surprised by the high hospitality of these people and their attitude to help me for any difficulty you can incur in. The people I met at work and in my dailylife were always kind. All these qualities, to be honest, overpassed my expectations. Expectations that are parts of stereotypes which can be overcome only with direct contact and by living abroad. I definitively recommend this volunteering program and to try living in Polish cities in particular– a wonderful mix to spend a great time abroad.
